Stow Finishes Undefeated in NOC River Division With Win Over Mayfield
The Stow-Munroe Falls boys swimmers and divers closed out their dual meet season undefeated in the River Division of the Northeast Ohio Conference last Tuesday night with a convincing 114-67 win over Mayfield at their home pool Akron General Medical Center.
The Lady Bulldogs found the going tough against a talented Mayfield team losing 116-69.
The boys jumped on the Mayfield Tigers early and never let up. They took a commanding 20 point lead after the first 4 events and gradually built on that lead as the meet progressed.
The Bulldogs swept 2 individual events (200 IM and 100 Breaststroke) and the 200 Medley Relay.
Senior Kenny Leep (1:54.19), Junior Nick Brenner (1:55.70) and Freshman Greg Dyer (personal best 1:58.91) took first, second, third respectively in the 200 IM.
Senior Evan Clason (1:04.51), Senior Cody Skinner (1:08.87) and Sophomore Greg Oneacre (1:09.09) took the top 3 spots in the 100 Breasstroke.
In the 200 Medley Relay the A relay team of Junior Alex Wentz (Backstroke), Clason (Breaststroke), Junior Logan Gabriel (Fly) and Senior Mike Fink (Free) won the event in a time of 1:48.73. The B Medley Relay team of Junior Dylan Fox (Backstroke), Skinner (Breaststroke), Junior Travis Wolfe (Fly) and Freshman Jeremy Wentz (Free) placed second touching with a time of 1:52.00.
Other event winners for the boys were: Alex Wentz 200 IM (2:14.29); Brenner 500 Free (personal best 5:09.52); 400 Free Relay (3:32.49) of Gabriel, Senior Matt George, Leep and Clason.
Boys achieving personal best times on the night were: Junior Alex Yeh 50 Free (24.91); Junior Logan Gabriel 100 Fly (59.67); Freshman Joe Freudeman 100 Fly (1:03.06); Jeremy Wentz 100 Free (54.08); Leep 100 Backstroke (1:03.40).
The boys finished with a dual meet record of 5-0 in the River Division and 6-2 overall. This was their sixth consecutive dual meet win after dropping their first 2
This was the final high school dual meet for 13 seniors on the men and womens swim team and each were recognized for their hard work, dedication and achievements during their high school swimming careers.

Boys place 2nd at Barberton Invitaitional
The Stow-Munroe Falls girls and boys swimmers each placed second in their respective competition at the 10-team Barberton Invitational held Saturday, January 24 at the University of Akrons Ocasek Natatorium.
The Lady Bulldogs captured second at the Invitational behind Wadsworth with 167 points in the 10 team field. Wadsworth won the event with a team total of 282 points.
Other teams competing at the Invitational were Berea, Revere, Walsh Jesuit, Brunswick, Cuyahoga Falls, CVCA, Nordonia and Hoban.
The girls had 4 swimmers that placed in the top 5 of their events.
Senior co-captain Jen Ciccantelli placed 3rd overall in the 200 Free (2:02.68) and 4th in the 100 Free (56.55).
Junior Shelbey Mitchell placed 2nd overall in the 100 Backstroke (1:03.29) and 3rd in the 200 IM (2:25.30).
Freshman Jessie Lee took 4th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:26.12.
Senior Abby Wentz placed 5th in the 100 Backstroke touching with a time of 1:09.94.
The 200 Medley Relay of Mitchell (Backstroke), Lee (Breaststroke), Wentz (Fly) and Amerman (Free) placed 3rd with a time of 1:59.23.
The boys team took second place behind Walsh Jesuit. The Bulldogs ended up with 204 points to Walshs 316.
Senior Evan Clason placed in the top 5 in both of his individual events. Clason finished 4th overall in the 50 Free with a 22.95 and 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:04.10.
The 200 Medley Relay teams took 3rd and 5th place. The A relay of Junior Dylan Fox (Backstroke), Clason (Breaststroke), Junior Logan Gabriel (Fly) and Senior Mike Fink (Free) swam a 1:49.20 to take 3rd place. The B relay team of Junior Alex Wentz (Backstroke), Sophomore Greg Oneacre (Breaststroke), Junior Travis Wolfe (Fly) and Senior Matt George (Free) finished 5th with a time of 1:51.54.
The 400 Free A Relay team of Gabriel, Junior Nick Brenner, Senior Kenny Leep, Clason took 5th overall swimming a 3:30.34.
1/23/09 Stow vs Nordonia (W, 96-90)
Bulldogs pull out win in last event against Nordonia
The Stow-Munroe Falls boys swimmers and divers eaked out a 96 -90 win over the host Nordonia Knights on Friday Jan. 23 to remain undefeated in the River Division of the Northeast Ohio Conference.
The boys meet went down to the final event, the 400 free relay. The meet was tied 86 86 at that point. The A relay team of Junior Nick Brenner, Junior Alex Wentz, Senior Mike Fink and Senior Evan Clason took first with a time of 3:35.36 and the B relay team of Senior Dan Madden, Freshman Jeremy Wentz, Sophomore Greg Oneacre and Senior Matt George touched in 3:47.76 for 3rd place. The first and third finish earned the Bulldogs the win.
There were a couple of points in the meet where it looked like the Bulldogs would put Nordonia away, but the Knights kept battling back.
Stow opened up a 10 point lead (60-50) after the 500 free with Junior Travis Wolfe, Senior Kenny Leep and Freshman Joe Freudeman taking first, second and fourth respectively.
Nordonia closed to within 2 points (71-69) after the next event, the 200 Free Relay, taking first and third.
Stow then extended the lead to 6 points (81-75) after the 100 Backstroke. Alex Wentz took first swimming a 1:02.28, Matt George third touching with a 1:06.06 and Freshman Jacob Marzec taking fifth with a 1:13.78.
The Knights came right back in the next event, the 100 Breaststroke, to tie the meet at 86 going into the final event.
Other event winners for the boys were: George 200 Free (personal best 2:04.01); Junior Logan Gabriel 200 IM (personal best 2:15.82); Clason 100 Free (personal best 51.72); Junior Travis Wolfe (personal best 5:22.45); Alex Wentz 100 Backstroke (1:02.28).
Coach Athena Millers boys squad improved their dual meet record to 4-0 in the River Division of the Northeast Ohio Conference and 5-2 overall.

Eight Swimmers Compete at Northeast Classic for Boys
There were 15 swimmers from Stow-Monroe Falls High School compete at the 5th Annual Northeast Classic held at the University of Akrons Ocasek Natatorium and Cantons C.T. Branin Natatorium last Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs had 7 swimmers representing them at the invitational and the boys had 8 swimmers compete. Four swimmers qualified out of the preliminary rounds in individual events to compete in the finals as well as the boys 400 free relay team.
Senior Evan Clason qualified for the Championship finals in both of his individual events, the 50 yard free and 100 yard breaststroke. Clason placed 3rd in 50 free of the prelims to qualify for the Championship round. He placed 5th overall swimming 22.70 in the finals. In the 100 breaststroke Clason swam a 1:03.19 in the prelims to place 5th. He finished 8th in the finals swimming a 1:03.21.
Junior Nick Brenner qualified for the consolation finals in the 500 free. Brenner swam a personal best 5:11.47 in the prelims to earn a spot in the finals. He placed 14th overall swimming a 5:12.07 in the final.
The boys 400 free relay qualified for consolation finals and placed 14th overall touching in a time of 3:31.09. Swimming on the relay were Junior Logan Gabriel, Brenner, Senior Kenny Leep and Clason.
Times for the other boys competing at the invitational: Senior Mike Fink 50 Free (24.38), Gabriel 100 Free (51.85) and 100 Fly (1:00.03), Leep 100 Free (53.15) and 200 Free (1:55.51), Brenner 200 Free (1:55.13), Sophomore Alex Wentz 100 Breaststroke (1:07.48), Senior Cody Skinner 100 Breaststroke (1:08.25), Sophomore Greg Oneacre (1:08.32), 200 Free Relay (Fink, Oneacre, Wentz and Leep) 1:38.50 and 200 Medley Relay (Wentz, Clason, Gabriel, Fink) 1:49.50.
The girls had 2 swimmers qualify for consolation finals in 2 individual events.
Senior Jen Ciccantelli qualified for consolation finals in the 200 Free placing 6th in the prelims swimming a personal best time of 2:01.95. Ciccantelli swam a 2:02.82 in the finals to place 15th overall.
Junior Shelbey Mitchell qualified for the finals in the 100 backstroke placing 7th in the prelims with a time of 1:03.10 and finishing 12th overall in the consolation finals with a time of 1:03.29.

The Bulldogs swam Nordonia this past Friday and competed at the Barberton Invitational but results were not available from either.
