Sectionals were held at Austintown Finch High School, there were 11 teams and approximately 143 boys wrestling hard to get to districts next week. This was a double elimination tournament. Our first round of matches started on Friday afternoon, we had many byes this round, we did have some wins, Freshman Brendon Wolfe winning by pin, 10 grader Gage Finegan won his match 13-0 and Senior Ryan Rachocki winning his match 2-1 with an escape in the last 5 seconds during double overtime. 2nd and last round of the night we had wins from Sophomore Dylan Hartwig an exciting 2-1 win by decision, Senior Trey Lohr winning with a pin, Junior Connor McMahon pin in :58 seconds!, Junior Troy Steiger win by pin and Junior Dan Garner win by decision 8-2. Saturday morning was exciting and stressful. This day determined if they would be going to districts or not, again we had many byes the first round, we did have a win from Freshman Braxton Hornick 10-2. Our next round we had wins from Hartwig (112) another close match 6-5, Wolfe(130) 8-3, McMahon(145) 4-1, Finegan(171) 2-0! Last match before finals we had a Lohr(119) winning 11-4 and Garner(215) 1-0 win. We had 7 boys heading into the finals. Dylan Hartwig taking 2nd place this year, last year as a freshman Dylan placed 5th(alternate at districts) Trey Lohr taking 4th place, Brendon Wolfe taking 6th place. Connor McMahon taking 1st place. Connor did go to districts last year with CFH. Troy Steiger got a forfeit so that gave him 5th place (alternate at districts) Gage Finegan took 6th place and Dan Garner taking 3rd place in a crowd pleasing 5-4 win. Only the top 4 placers in each weight class go on to districts in Mentor next weekend. Sectionals are also a team sport, our team placed 7th out of 11 teams with a total of 101 points. Our wrestlers gave it their all this weekend! They wrestled hard and didn’t give up. For the young guys on our squad it was a learning experience and they should be proud of their efforts , for another it was his last time to wrestle. Wrestling is not an easy sport and I admire anyone that can go out there and do it!! Good luck to our wrestlers going to districts!!

This was our last varsity home match of the season, For our senior varsity wrestlers,Trey Lohr and Ryan Rachocki this was the last time for them to wrestle at the high school. We had a canned food drive to help support Open M, Our wrestling team would like to thank everyone that helped support this organization. Also at our meet we had wrestlers from Kimpton Middle School in attendance, we have some talented wrestlers that will be wrestling for our high school in the near future.

Our first meet of the night was with Mogadore, unfortunatly they did not have enough wrestlers to fill their roster, so they had to take 5 forfeits. Our boys that did have a match did very well, Adam Hunt (103) 15-0, Dylan Hartwig (112) 12-2, Trey Lohr (119) 12-5, Braxton Hornick (135)11-4, Connor McMahon (145) pin, this was Connors 100th win in his high school career!!, Troy Steiger(160) pin and Dan Garner (215) pin. Final score 63-3.

We did very well against Tallmadge, most of our wins tonight were by pins, Hartwig (112) pin, Lohr (119) pin, McCaffrey(125) pin,Wolfe (130) pin, McMahon (145) pin,Troy Steiger(160) pin, Finegan(171) pin and Rachocki (189) pin. Wins by decision were Hunt (103) 2-0 and Hornick (135) 8-4.

The Northeast Ohio Conference tournament was a very challenging tournament. Friday night started off with Dylan Hartwig beating his guy 12-0, JJ McCaffrey pinned his guy in 1:31, Connor McMahon pinning his guy 4:58, Gage Finegan pinning his guy 2:54 and Dan Garner pinning his guy in 4:34. The next round of matches we had Adam Hunt pinning his guy in 5:41, Dylan Hartwig 4-2 decision, Brandon Wolfe 4-1 decision, Hunter Massey win by pin, Connor McMahon pinning his guy 3:07, Joe Kollar win by pin and Troy Steiger win by pin. Saturday was much harder for some but our Stow team still had wrestlers still competing for finals, Connor McMahon winning with a pin, Gage Finegan winning by 5-3 decision and Dan Garner winning by pin 2:10. Three of our wrestlers still had a few more mathches before finals, Dylan Hartwig won by a pin, Gage Finegan win 3-2 decision and Dan Garner win by 7-1 decision. Finals, always exciting and our 4 boys did there very best after a long two days! Connor McMahon 145# winning by an exciting 3-1 decision! Taking 1st!!, his opponent was ranked 2nd in the state. Dylan Hartwig 112# 4-3 decision taking 3rd place, Gage Finegan 171# 8-1 decision taking 5th place and Dan Garner 215#, forfiet due to sickness taking 6th.

The score says it all. Barberton has a lot of strong wrestlers. We did have three wrestlers winning with exciting pins!! Trey Lohr, Braxton Hornick and Connor McMahon. Way to go guys!


We also wrestled Coventry, losing by a few points, The score for this match was 27-31. Wrestlers winning their match from Stow, Dylan Hartwig (6-0), JJ McCaffrey (6-4 in overtime!!), Brendon Wolfe (pin), Connor McMahon (pin)(1:20), Joe Kollar(2-0), Chris Wright (171) first varsity match taking a win (6-0) and Dan Garner, wrestling heavyweight in a very exciting 2-1 win in double overtime!!

Were on to NOC this coming weekend!! Good Luck Guys!!

There was a lot of good competition with Brush unfortunately we fell just points away from a win. Wrestlers that had wins were Dylan Hartwig (8-3), Trey Lohr (pin)(2:46), Brandon Wolfe (7-5), Troy Steiger(5-1) and Dan Garner wrestling heavyweight tonight (pin)(5:10)


This was a dual meet so we also wrestled against Glenville a team with lots of good competition for our boys, we lost this match 33 to 34!! Wrestlers taking home a win, Hartwig (9-3), McMahon (pin) (2:48), Rachocki(pin).

Our wrestlers did awesome at this tournament, bringing home a first place trophy!! First round of matches we had 7 wins by pins from Adam Hunt, Dylan Hartwig, Brendon Wolfe, Connor McMahon, Joe Kollar, Gage Finegan and Ryan Rachocki. Troy Steiger also won this round by a 12-1 decision. Round two we had many wins by pins from Adam Hunt, Trey Lohr, JJ McCaffrey, Braxton Hornick, Hunter Massey, Gage Finegan and Dan Garner, Winning this round by decision, Dylan Hartwig 16-0 and Joe Kollar in an exciting win 6-5 by escaping with only 2 seconds left to his match!! The next few rounds we still continued our winning streak Hunt pin,Hartwig 12-5 decision, Lohr winning by an impressive 31 second pin!, McCaffrey 16-4, Massey 9-4, McMahon pin, Steiger 8-2 and a pin, Finegan with an exciting win 4-2 in overtime and Rachocki 3-1.Final Rounds are always exciting and again our boys did not disappoint the fans! with wins by pins from Hartwig, McCaffrey,Wolfe, Massey,Finegan and Rachocki, we had wins by decisions as well from Lohr 15-2, McMahon 11-0, and Steiger 11-1 and 12-10. Not only did we win as a team but we also had 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners! We had some wins from our Jv squad tonight against Hudson, Freshman Kyle Earley won by a pin (1:26), junior Joe Combs pin (1:26), sophomore Jon Guy pin(2:18) sophomore Chris Wright win 12-1 and sophomore Caleb Bodjanac pin (3:12)

A very close match with Hudson, Our wrestlers did their very best under the lights and were just points away from winning. We had wins from Dylan Hartwig(112) pin (3:58), J.J McCaffrey(125) pin (2:32), Braxton Hornick(135) 6-1 decision, Connor McMahon(145) win by forfeit, Gage Finegan (171) 7-4, Ryan Rachocki(189) 6-1 and Dan Garner (215) 1-0

All our boys wrestled very well at this tournament and brought home a 2nd place trophy for the team! We started this tournament off in the first round with 4 straight pins! Adam Hunt (5:26), Dylan Hartwig(3:32), Mike Edwards(1:33), and Trey Lohr (1:59) 3 wins by decisions, Connor McMahon(16-1), Troy Steiger (3-0), Ryan Rachocki(7-1), and a pin by Dan Garner (3:25). The 2nd round was a little harder for some but we still had 5 pins, Hartwig with our fastest team pin at 49 seconds, Brendon Wolfe(4:49), McMahon (1:01), Joe Koller (2:28) and Gage Finegan (3:42) and 2 wins by decision Steiger (5-2) and Garner(3-1). The next two rounds determined placement in the finals. We had 2 wins from Lohr 12-2 decision and a pin(4:24), Wolfe pin (5:00), Massey 2 pins (5:14)(3:00), McMahon win by decision 16-1, and 2 wins from Rachocki 4-2 decision and a pin (3:36). Going into the finals with 8 guys was definitely exciting and also knowing we were 2nd in team points. These final matches were intense for our wrestlers (and also for the fans!) as they wrestled their way to their spot on the podium. Dylan Hartwig (112) taking 3rd place with a 6-3 decision, Trey Lohr (125) taking 6th , 4-13 decision, Hunter Massey (140) taking 5th with a 5-2 decision, Connor McMahon (145) pinning his guy and taking 1st place, Troy Steiger(160) taking 3rd with a 3-1 decision, Gage Finegan (171) taking 4th in a 2-3 decision( triple overtime!), Ryan Rachocki(189) taking 5th in a 6-3 decision and Dan Garner (215) (due to injury ) taking 4th place. Way to go team!!

This was a close meet with Nordonia, Our boys wrestled hard but just fell a little short to get a team win. The fastest win of the day goes to Dylan Hartwig with a pin in 43 seconds! We had other wins by Trey Lohr with a win by decision 15-7, Connor McMahon won by pin (3:15), Troy Steiger with an exciting win by decision 8-6, Gage Finegan won by decision 11-3 and Dan Garner who stepped up to wrestle heavyweight this week, ended the match with an crowd pleasing pin (5:27).

Falling to our rival is never easy, our wrestlers had a tough time at our team match with Cuyahoga Falls. We did have a couple wrestlers that went away with a win. Dylan Hartwig won his match by technical fall 17-0, Connor McMahon winning his match with a pin (2:32) and Troy Steiger with a win by decision 5-0.

Alot of fans came out to see our first home varsity match. Garfield was a strong opponent and out wrestled our team, we didnt go down without a fight, we had a few close matches and several indiviual wins, Adam Hunt (103) at his first varsity match pinning his guy! We had other pins by Dylan Hartwig (112) and Connor McMahon (152)! Troy Steiger (160) with a crowd pleasing pin! and Dan Garner with a 5-0 win.

This tournament had lots of competition. We had our wins and our losses. We did have 4 wrestlers place in the finals. Connor McMahon (152)took 1st in his weight class pinning his guy(1:59) Dylan Hartwig(112) took 3rd place (4-2 decision), Gage Finegan (171) taking 5th place (2-0 decision) and Brendon Wolfe (130) taking 6th place.

The boys wrestled hard at this tournament and placed 11th out of 17 teams. We had boys place in the Gold and Silver brackets. In the gold bracket Connor McMahon @152 2nd,Dylan Hartwig @112 4th,Mike Edwards @119 5th, Dan Garner @215 5th andTrey Lohr @125 6th. In the silver bracket Ryan Rachocki @189 1st,Troy Steiger @160 1st, Massey @145 1st andJJ McCaffrey @130 3rd. The quickest pin from our team goes to Gage Finegan at 30 seconds.

Our wrestlers got to show off their moves at our friendly scrimmage with Cloverleaf HS, the boys had many wins, with our quickest pin from a new senior to our squad Trey Lohr with a pin at 16 seconds.
