10/26/09 Stow vs Hudson (district semi) (L, 1-2 OT)
Season Ending Loss
The season came to an end for the Stow Lady Bulldogs at the hands of the Hudson Explorers. The 2-1 final score sent Hudson into the District Final.
Hudson scored first halfway through the first half when they intercepted a Stow clearance, and the cross found its mark for a header goal. Until that point, Hudson held a slight advantage in the game, but the goal woke up the Lady Bulldogs, and they were able to sustain possession and pressure the Hudson goal. Vickie Havas nearly ties the game only 1 minute after the Hudson tally, but her shot bounced off the crossbar. Steffanie Keller also had an opportunity only 2 minutes later that was saved by the Hudson goalie. Stow did equalize 13 minutes into the second half on a 30 yard shot from Havas. The game ranged back and forth, both teams putting on flurries of shots, but nobody could break through. The score at the end of regulation was 1-1, sending the game into sudden death overtime. Hudson ended the game on a goal from 25 yards, 6 minutes into overtime.
Stow finishes the season as NOC River Division champs, a record of 15-3-1, 5-0 in the River Division. The team averaged nearly 3 goals per game, while giving up fewer than 1 goal per game. 9 different Bulldogs scored goals, and 12 recorded assists. Congratulations girls. You gave your family, friends, school and community a lot of highlights and memories. Great season!
10/24/09 Stow vs Kent (sect. final) (W, 5-2)
Sectional Final Win
The Stow Lady Bulldogs took on the Kent Lady Rough Riders for the second time this season, and posted a 5-2 victory in a Sectional final.
The game did not start off the way Stow would have wanted, with Kent getting on the scoreboard in the first minute when a windblown cross sailed just beyond keeper Kara Carden and into the path of an onrushing Kent forward. Kent doubled their lead shortly after. The 2 goals woke up the Lady Bulldogs and from then on, Stow dominated play. Vickie Havas got Stow on the scoreboard, changing the momentum, then evened the scored before halftime off a Marena Toth assist.
Early in the second half, Kyrsten Kamlowsky found Katee Wensinger who drilled a shot into the upper right corner for game winning goal. Abbie Lawson padded the lead with two goals, with assists from Kamlowsky and Stefanie Keller. Great work also from outside midfielders Sara Rutherford and Kait Zemanski as the Lady Bulldogs worked the outside wings to attack. Defensively, Ellie Swanger, Karlie Jones, Lyndsey Walker and Wensinger limited Kent to 3 shots on goal.
Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is the Hudson Explorers in a Kent District semifinal.
